At this rate, Colbert might actually be held accountable in the near future for making transphobic jokes.

Go trigger warn some shit

That’s not transphobic, though. He’s making a point that because the LGBT agenda is “barreling forward at full-speed” that the B and T of LGBT is being left behind. Everyone is focusing on the L and the G that there are people who have no idea what the B and T even stand for. He’s not being transphobic or making a slight meant to make fun of or harm the bi and trans* community. He’s making a point that no one is focusing on them because they’re focusing on the lesbian and gay community.

Mother. Fucking. This.

People really need to realize that EVERYTHING Colbert says while on camera is satire.

Satire: The use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people’s stupidity or vices, particularly in the cotext of a play, novel, fiilm or other works.

He is not making a transphobic joke. He is not honestly saying that bi and trans people do not count/matter/exist. He is making humor in order to shed light on the fact that they are forgotten.

He is doing this to raise fucking awareness that there is more to LGBT than LG. He is raising a big flag that says “Hey, don’t forget about these guys. They count. They matter. Why aren’t you doing anything about them? Why aren’t they discussed?” He is not trying to say “They don’t matter.”

So please stop with the self righteous, self pity, “social justice” comments unless you know what you are talking about.

I do appreciate that Bisexual is matched with bacon. I rather enjoy bacon.

This is why I love the Colbert Show.

Stephen Colbert is basically my hero.

anarcho-queer:

While the head honchos at the HRC are making 6 figure salaries from donations to support ‘marriage equality’, hundreds of thousands of LGBTQ youth are homeless and are purposely ignored by mainstream gay organizations. The ‘fight’ for same sex marriage has proven to be a profitable business for gay ‘non-profit’ businesses, so it’s no wonder why gay marriage overshadows all other LGBTQ issues. After all, helping the needy results in smaller pay.
Supporting gay marriage doesn’t mean you support the queer struggle. In fact, most ‘allies’ and even a large portion of more fortunate queers don’t know the facts about LGBTQ homelessness, violence against trans* people, high unemployment, discrimination, etc, nor do they bother to research it. They are just concerned about their favorite gay celebrities being able to tie the knot.
If you care about the queer struggle, take a minute of your day to familiarize yourself with some of the disturbing statistics:
20- 40% of homeless youth are LGBTQ. In comparison, the general youth population is only 3-10% LGBTQ.
LGBTQ youth are twice as likely to experience sexual abuse before the age of 12.
LGBTQ youth, once homeless, are at higher risk for victimization, mental health problems, and unsafe sexual practices. 58.7% of LGBTQ homeless youth have been sexually victimized compared to 33.4% of heterosexual homeless youth
LGBTQ youth are roughly 7.4 times more likely to experience acts of sexual violence than heterosexual homeless youth
LGBTQ homeless youth commit suicide at higher rates (62%) than heterosexual homeless youth (29%)
At least 20% of ALL transgender people will be homeless sometime in their life.
29% of transgender people reported being turned away from a homeless shelter due to their transgender status.
Please consider taking action to help combat LGBTQ homelessness. I suggest making a donation to the Ali Forney Center or volunteering at your local LGBTQ homeless shelter.
P.S. Fuck the HRC!

Argument I heard on the bus

Guy 1: no, niggah, gay bros can raise babies. Look at that warthog motherfucker and that ferret thing that raised Simba. And that niggah became king of motherfucking Africa.

"You never see a gay actor getting asked what it’s like to play straight — to my knowledge, at least, there is no difference in how heterosexual and homosexual people fall in love."

you remember fun don't you, sammy: I don't ship them.   →

shutthefuckupstraightpeople:

“THESE TWO ARE CANON SHIP IT YOU HOMOPHOBE”

Thank you!

I am a gay male. Likely I’m one of the oldest users on tumblr. I’m 74. Yes, young readers seventy four. I have been with my partner Carl for 47 years now.

Please know that while we both know technology very well, we are also trying very hard to remember, and use correctly, the new dialogue that has grown. So, if any words appear here that are not considered correct…it is not because I refuse to use them. It’s because I haven’t heard them. Or seen them. Or am emotional enough while writing this that I simply use “old fart” words.

We have both been through it all. The hiding because it was illegal, the fear and pain of the loss of fifteen different friends and acquaintances from A.I.D.S. The times when you literally (not virtually) could not walk the streets without meeting someone that had a sign, or a pamphlet that declared A.I.D.S was God’s way of “ridding the earth” of homosexuality. We lived through the burning of homes, and clubs, and bars. We lived through the beating deaths. I lived through a beating that nearly lost me my right eye and left me completely deaf in the right ear. Carl lost several jobs because “he must be…” or “we know.” We lived through hatred that was terrifying and sickening and unimaginable to some today.

The hatred is still there. The overt and the subtle. Things are, however better (it’s a terrible word, I know). Carl and I married. We debated making it very public, but decided on a personal ceremony. The photos are filled with our friends who are 90 and…well…have a few pages stuck together, to new friends who are young enough to be our grandchildren.

Carl and I are in a variety of fandoms. Yes, we are trekkies-we bought our first color television just for Star Trek. Now Carl loves Supernatural (and thinks it’s gone so far down the crapper that they’ve actually made Naomi an Alien). I like Teen Wolf and we both watch Sherlock.

The opening statement made by the anon is so, so true. And to us, it is a new form of hatred. I read fanfic and write it. Carl and I both enjoy all forms of fanworks.

Here’s the kicker… Neither of us is a Sherlock/John shipper. We both see Sherlock and John as two men who have a very unique and incredibly strong friendship. Here’s the irony: I have been called a homophobe for not shipping Sherlock and John. I received hate messages in my (now deleted) Sherlock blog when I answered ‘do you ship Johnlock?’ with the single word ‘no’. It was oddly amusing: “Homophobe”, “die cis scum!”, “go kill yourself”, “you must be a lonely, fat, hag”.

When straight people go out of their way to “prove” that John and Sherlock (and other fandom characters) are gay, and do so with the cry of “if you don’t ship it, you hate gays!” It is an ironic form of hatred and, in a way, homophobia: These straight people are so determined to show that they aren’t homophobic, that they fail to see how damaging their fetishization and “look at how accepting I am!” is. That, queers can actually see a friendship between John and Sherlock (and any other fandom characters). That seeing a friendship, and not shipping John and Sherlock is simply that… Seeing a friendship.

When you demand, dear straight people, that others ship Johnlock, and demand that if you don’t “ship” you are homophobic… You are the one that is showing intolerance and hate: Your quest to prove that you’re on “our side” only proves your ignorance, your desperation to been seen as an ally, and the fact that you don’t actually see queer issues, or respect those that are queer.

You only want to see two guys have hot (or painfully bad, and painful considering the how…painfully it is written the majority of the time) sex.

here’s a screen cap of a correspondence between a woman named telisha cobb and senator campfield, who is at the forefront of tennessee’s “don’t say gay” bill (actually called the classroom protection act), a bill which would require teachers, counselors, etc. to inform parents if their children are gay, or even if they ~appear~ to be gay. (here is some more information about it.) she posted it on her facebook (easier to read!) and is urging others to share it so the word can get out about what an unbelievable asshole this dude is (if it wasn’t already obvious enough).
in case you’re having trouble reading the screen cap, it says:
Senator Campfield, I am writing to you as a mother, active citizen and born & raised Tennessean. You are an embarrassment to our great state. Folks all over the country and here in Tennessee are looking at the bills that you are proposing in shock. They are the most ignorant and morally lacking legislation that could be proposed this year. It is clear that you are targeting homosexuals and low income families with hogwash legislation. You need to search your heart, your values and your Christianity to find a better way to represent us as a whole. We will do everything in our power to make sure you are not here in 2014. There are numerous grass root parties that are making their voices heard.
his super classy response to her email reads:
You seem to have some serious, deep anger issues. Have you ever thought about therapy? I hear they are doing some wonderful things with medication these days.
Yours in service,
Sen. Stacey Campfield
like come on. you’ve gotta be kidding me here.
so! if you wouldn’t mind reblogging this and spreading the word, that would be great! telisha wants others to spread this around as much as they possibly can. this is a totally inappropriate and unprofessional way of addressing criticism and more people need to know about this dude and what he’s trying to pull.

okay, so i’d been hearing all about 8x13 practically making dean’s bisexuality canon, but damn.

that was wildly, deliciously, deliberately not straight.

onamelancholyhill:

balaszafiros:

Significant because all the people who are trying to say Dean was acting awkward with Aaron on last night’s episode is because it was weird for him to turn down advances from other men.  Sorry, no.  Dean has a lot of practice at it, and it really doesn’t take anything more than a “Sorry, I’m not interested,” which is something, as you can see, Dean is totally capable of doing.

So, why did Aaron turn him into a stumbling mess? Well, unless Ben Edlund (who is one of the best writers the show has and happens to be fond of the idea of Dean and Cas being a thing) and Jensen Ackles (whose professionalism I respect, who I think is very conscious of who Dean is, and who is not afraid to protest when something is out of character [please refer to the omitted ending to the trench coat scene at the end of season 6]) decided to jump on a crazy train for the night, which I don’t believe is the case, then the scenes in 8.13 were very deliberate choices.  Choices that take the homoerotic subtext that follows Dean around like a puppy and turn it into actual text.

But Dean is straight, you say.  There is no evidence that Dean likes any person that is not a cis female, you might also say.  I say, maybe you missed some things because you brushed them off as jokes (Bert and Ernie are gay) or didn’t understand the reference (the Purgatory in Miami is a gay club) or simply didn’t notice him take a look at that soldier’s ass, but there have been suggestions from at least season two that Dean might not be as 100% heterosexual as he would like people to believe.  In season two, Sam responds to Dean’s question of why people always assume that they’re gay by telling Dean that he appears to be overcompensating.  That’s not just a joke.  Dean is overcompensating, and he has a lot of good reasons to try to make himself fit into a hypermasculine role. (Can anyone say John Winchester? Can anyone say the good-little-soldier-with-no-feelings hunting community ideal that he has been trying to live since he was four?) I could enumerate or point you toward other peoples’ in-depth analysis of all the little things Dean has done over these 8 seasons that point to him having a sexuality that is not so cut and dry as being interested exclusively in cis females, and I will if you ask.

However, I really just wanted to point out that Dean’s behavior with Aaron is particularly suspicious in light of his past responses if the writers and Jensen himself aren’t intending to bring Dean out of the closet.  Paired with all the foreshadowing in the substories not pertaining to the tablet arc that refer to Castiel and human/supernatural being partnerships, Dean in 8.13 makes a pretty convincing case that Dean being bi/pan/omni and Destiel are endgame.  Until last night, I hadn’t dared to hope.  I’m still not holding my breath, but I don’t understand the point if that’s not where they’re going.

Thank you for existing.

TW: transphobia —

“Shims, shemales, whatever you’re calling yourselves these days – don’t threaten or bully us lowly natural-born women, I warn you. We may not have as many lovely big swinging Phds as you, but we’ve experienced a lifetime of PMT and sexual harassment and many of us are now staring HRT and the menopause straight in the face – and still not flinching. Trust me, you ain’t seen nothing yet. You really won’t like us when we’re angry.

"

The last paragraph of the painfully offensive article “Transsexuals should cut it out” by Julie Burchill for the Guardian.

How was this bullshit ever allowed to be published for a legitimate news source?

As one commenter pointed out, it breaches the editor’s code of conduct:

Discrimination

i) The press must avoid prejudicial or pejorative reference to an individual’s race, colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation or to any physical or mental illness or disability.

(Source: Guardian)

Hi Guys, The Guardian today has published a massively Transphobic article and it cannot be ignored.

TW: Transphobia.

For those who don’t know, The Guardian is one of the more “respectable” newspapers in the UK, however after reading this I am absolutely horrified.

I warn you, I could barely get past the second paragraph.

The contact email is here: reader@guardian.co.uk

I suggest as many of you write in and complain as you can, awareness needs to be raised and this woman needs to face the consequences.

Genuinely cringing with every single paragraph!!! WTF

Looks like your voices are being heard. The top of the article now sports a blurb that says:

“As you might imagine, I have received many emails protesting about this piece this morning. Thank you to those who have written. I will be looking at this issue and will be replying to all in due course.”

But how did such a vile and offensive article get published in the first place?
