aw, yes i do feel like that sometimes. sometimes a lot.

it’s your blog, you should be able to write what you want and not worry about your followers. besides, chances are, some of them (if not all) have felt the same way at some point.

i don’t really think this counts as blackface, as he his literally painted the color black, to make a contrasting artistic statement, rather than being painted a shade of brown to try to look like a different race than the one he is.

Right, that’s what I was thinking too. I’m just still not positive. One person’s art is another person insult.

Florence + The Machine’s No Light, No Light video was supposed to be artistic but was hailed as wildly racist and they used blackface with actually black paint. But that was problematic because the man who was painted black was representing darkness and was practicing bad hoodoo and chasing Florence and was fulfilling all sorts of hurtful, stereotypical race tropes.

(Side note, I’ve checked out some of Florence’s other vids since then and I gotta say, I’m not impressed. I really like her music. Not her videos.)
